Breastfeeding.  For a number of recent decades, breastfeeding took a back seat in regard to it's importance in the initial nutritional requirements for the newborn.  Many experts, who realized the actual importance, unfortunately, weren't in any authority position to see it was being promoted and encouraged.  To read a history of baby formulas and it's acceptance

However, with more emphasis on health in general, breastfeeding couldn't scientifically be ignored in relation to the nutritional  benefits to the newborn.  It has also been proven to optimally enhance all phases of development to the newborn.

Mom's, please do all you can in embracing this feeding method.  Do whatever it requires to make it happen.  Incorporating  in only  the first 4-5 months initiates phenomenal developmental benefits.

The U.S. Surgeon General Recommends Breastfeeding

The U.S. Surgeon General recommends that babies be fed with breast milk only — no formula — for the first 6 months of life. It is better to breastfeed for 6 months and best to breastfeed for 12 months, or for as long as you and your baby wish. Solid foods can be introduced when the baby is 6 months old, while you continue to breastfeed.
